Information about Your Hospital stay
For National Health Service (SSN) and private patients
Hospitalization is prescribed by the treating physician following one or more specialist examinations, after which the patient is placed on the waiting list. In the case of admission for surgery, patients first go through a pre-hospitalization assessment, during which specific medical and instrumental examinations are carried out.
For these pre-admission procedures, patients are contacted by telephone by the Pre-Admissions Office to arrange the day of their appointment. On the scheduled day, patients report to the Information Desk in the main lobby (ground floor) at 7 am, having fasted since midnight. They must bring the following documentation: a valid ID, their healthcare card (if SSN patients), and the results of any previous relevant diagnostic tests. Diagnostic pre-admission tests are free of charge.
Depending on the type of care required, patients are admitted to the main hospital (Via Álvaro del Portillo, 200 – 00128 Roma) or the Health Care Center for the Elderly (Via Álvaro del Portillo, 5 – 00128 Roma).
The Admissions Office will communicate the date and time of hospitalization to the patient by telephone. Patients hospitalized through the SSN stay in rooms with two beds and a bathroom. If available, a single room can be requested for an extra fee. On the day scheduled for admission, patients check in at the SSN Admissions office at the facility where they will be hospitalized:

SSN Admissions Office for Rehabilitation– Health Care Center for the Elderly (Centro per la Salute dell’Anziano), ground floor

Patients receive the following items from the Admissions staff:
- an identification bracelet to be worn until the patient has been discharged
- the documentation to be handed over to the nursing staff upon arrival in the ward
- a satisfaction questionnaire for patients, to be completed at the time of discharge and placed in one of the containers located on the wards, in the Admissions Office or in the Customer Care Office (URP).
- any document received from the admissions office to be handed over to the ward manager
- a valid ID
UCBM Hospital also accepts private patients and has affiliations with many health insurance companies.
Private patients are given single rooms measuring approximately 30 square metres. These rooms, located on the fourth floor, overlook the Decima Malafede Natural Reserve.
All rooms are equipped with private bathroom, TV, minibar, safe, air conditioning and wi-fi access. Included in the price are a sofa bed for one guest and room service for meals, a toiletries kit and a free pass for the underground parking garage.
Patients who desire greater comfort and privacy can request to stay, for an additional cost, in our suite (if available). Along with all the comforts of a standard private room, the suite, which measures approximately 50 square metres, also has a sitting room with sofa bed and arm chairs, and two bathrooms.
Menus for patients are personalised on the basis of their treatment, as defined by the attending physicians. Menus for the accompanying guest offer several choices which change every day. The hospital ensures that all patients can respect their religion’s dietary practices in choosing their meals.
Patients can contact the ward secretary with requests for special personal care needs. The ward secretary works together with catering services, nursing and administrative staff to manage the quality of the rooms, meals, the patient’s stay and all patient requests regarding their comfort or individual needs.
There are no specific visiting hours for private patients. Visitors to private patients are welcome throughout the day, except when the patient is undergoing treatment or care.
UCBM Hospital has direct agreements with most major insurance companies with whom billing and payment are handled directly by the hospital. Patients holding policies with such insurers should always check in advance to make sure they are fully informed about policy limits or deductibles and about what constitutes the full invoice amount as defined in their policy.
Patients insured by companies with no direct agreement with UCBM Hospital or with an indirect agreement pay their hospital bill at the Admissions Office and then request reimbursement from their insurance company.
