Clinical activity

The Ophthalmology Unit deals with the study and treatment of diseases affecting the eye and its adnexa. It treats patient through outpatient assistance, day-hospital, and day-surgery. It provides services in agreement with the Italian National Health System, at reduced rates and on a private basis.

Physicians of the Ophthalmology Unit have developed their expertise in international centres of excellence and offer specialist assistance in dedicated outpatients clinics:

  • Outpatient clinic for Medical and Surgical Diseases of the Retina
  • Outpatient clinic for Refractive Surgery
  • Outpatient clinic for Geriatric Ophthalmology and Cataracts

In particular, the Unit is a reference centre for:

  • Traditional and Femtosecond Laser-Assisted Cataract Surgery (FLACS)
  • Advanced Technology Intraocular Lens for multifocal vision and astigmatism correction
  • Refractive surgery (PRK, Femto-LASIK and ICL)
  • Retina surgery (i.e. retinal detachment, macular holes, pucker)
  • Maculopathies and diabetic retinal diseases (OCT, laser, intravitreal injections)
  • Corneal transplantation (PK, LK, endothelial, Kerathoprosthesis)
  • Stem cells transplantation
  • Keratoconus Management
  • Ocular surface diseases (red eye, dry eye)
  • Infectious, allergic and toxic blepharo-conjunctivitis
  • Infectious, non-infectious and neurotrophic corneal ulcers
  • Neuroprotection in glaucoma patients
