Clinical activity

The Neurology Unit is specialised in the study, diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the central and peripheral nervous system and muscular diseases. Procedures are offered on an outpatient, day-hospital, and ordinary hospitalisation basis. Neurologists at Campus Bio-Medico University Hospital provide comprehensive care for adults with major neurological disorders, such as:

  • Cerebrovascular diseases (strokes, transient ischemic attacks)
  • Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia
  • Headache
  • Epilepsy
  • Parkinson's disease and other types of movement disorders
  • Multiple sclerosis
  • Myeloradiculopathies
  • Muscular and peripheral nervous system diseases

The Operative Unit consists of general, specialist, and instrumental clinics:

  • General neurology
  • Headache
  • Specialist diagnostic centre for cognitive disorders and dementia
  • Epilepsy
  • Parkinson’s and movement disorders
  • Multiple sclerosis
  • Cerebrovascular diseases
  • Neuromuscular diseases
  • Doppler ultrasonography of epiaortic and transcranial vessels
  • Electromyography
  • Electroencephalography
  • Sleep disorders
  • Evoked potential

Research fields

  • Integrated functional neuroimaging for the study of brain plasticity and recovery mechanisms after neurological impairment
  • Transcranial neuromodulation for the treatment of cerebral ischemia and drug-resistant epilepsy
  • Non-invasive stimulation of the vagus nerve for the treatment of stroke-related disability
  • Development and application of wireless sensors for the diagnosis and monitoring of neurological diseases, particularly for Parkinson's disease and cerebrovascular diseases
  • Neurophysiological markers for the early diagnosis of dementia
  • Neurophysiological markers of brain connectivity in epileptic patients
  • Therapies for the treatment of mild to moderate Alzheimer's disease
  • Study and modulation of brain plasticity in patients with upper limb amputation
  • Study of excitability and cortical connectivity in neurological disorders
  • Ultrasound study of cerebral haemodynamics
  • Innovative treatments for migraines
