Nuclear Medicine now Operational: PET-CT and Scintigraphy

The services offered to patients at the University Hospital are expanding.

The Nuclear Medicine of the Campus Bio-Medico University Hospital will open on 15th February in the premises at Via Álvaro del Portillo 200, with state-of-the-art scintigraphy and PET-CT scans for oncology and onco-haematology patients in Rome and throughout the Lazio region.

Nuclear Medicine is a non-invasive, painless and safe diagnostic technique involving the intravenous administration of a radiopharmaceutical, a weakly radioactive substance with no pharmacological effects. The latest-generation machines in the Nuclear Medicine department of the Campus Bio-Medico University Hospital offer total body and brain PET-CT scans, as well as myocardial, bone, renal, pulmonary, parathyroid and thyroid scintigraphy.

PET (Positron Emission Tomography) enables the early detection of the exact size and location of a tumour and is mainly used in the neurological, orthopaedic, endocrinological, nephrological, cardiological and breast fields. Scintigraphy examinations make it possible, with a small amount of radioactivity, to obtain images that examine the functioning of the organ in order to correctly diagnose its state of health.

The service will be open for information and collection/delivery of booking forms from Monday to Friday from 9am to 4pm. For bookings, please call 06.22541 3233 or email
