Gynaecology Unit

CLINICAL ACTIVITIES

The Gynaecology Unit deals with the diagnosis of pathologies of the reproductive system and associated clinical interventions and surgery. It specialises in the medical-surgical treatment and treatment follow-up programs of neoplasias of the gynaecological system (cervix, uterus, uterine tubes, endometrium and ovaries). It also deals with the medical-surgical treatment of the principal benign gynaecological pathologies (uterine fibromatosis, removal of uterine fibroids and polypi, ovarian cysts and endometriotic nodules), including via intra-operative ultrasound probe.

 

The Unit also runs the following general and specialist clinics:

  • Gynaecology and Obstetric
  • Colposcopy (for the prevention of uterine cervical tumours) and human papilloma virus vaccine
  • Gynaecological ultrasound
  • Urogynaecology and urodynamic tests
  • Menoapuse

Hysteroscopy techniques are used for:

  • Endometrial polyps
  • The removal of submucosal myomas
  • The removal of ovarian cysts
  • Endometrial ablation and biopsy, resectoscopy, adnexectomy
  • Lysis of intrauterine adhesions

Laparoscopy techniques are used for:

  • Radical hysterectomy
  • Staging ovarian carcinomas
  • “Second look”
  • Lombo-aortic and pelvic lymphadenectomy
  • Adhesiolysis
  • Removal of ovarian cysts
  • Adnexectomy
  • Colposuspension

Minimally invasive urogynaecological treatment is used for:

  • Urinary incontinence
  • Urogenital prolapse
  • Defects of the pelvic floor
  • Neurostimolation

The Unit also carries out Loop Electrosurgical Excision Procedures (LEEP) in areas of cervical dysplasia, conization, pelvectomy, etc.
