Operative Endoscopy of the Digestive Tract Unit

The Endoscopic Ultrasound Unit diagnoses and treats problems of the digestive system. In collaboration with the specialist Units of General Surgery, Gastroenterology, Medical Oncology and Radiotherapy, it provides a multidisciplinary approach to bilio-pancreatic and gastroenteric tube pathology. Profound sedation procedures are carried out with the support of anaesthetists, present in all endoscopic theatres.

The main pathologies treated are:

  • Cystic pancreatic lesions
  • Chronic pancreatitis
  • Bilial tract disorders
  • Neoplastic or pre-neoplastic lesions of the stomach or colon
  • Endoscopic treatment of gastro-oesophageal reflux disease

Diagnosis and therapy are available on an inpatient, outpatient and day surgery basis, both privately and under the Italian National Health Service. The main services performed include:

  • Diagnostic and operative endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) for the study of the pancreas and bile ducts, mediastinum, submucosal lesions, rectal pathologies
  • Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) for pathologies of the bile ducts and pancreas (gallstones, neoplasias of the bile ducts and pancreas, chronic pancreatitis)
  • Diagnostic and operative colonscopy (screening, polyps and neoplasias of the colon, inflammatory disorders)
  • Diagnostic and operative esophagogastroduodenoscopy (gastro-oesophageal reflux and its treatment, peptic pathology, oncological pathology, oesophageal and gastric varices)

The services are delivered rapidly with the results being immediately available (histological examination results can also be faxed or emailed to the patient).
