Life on the Ward

Admissions

Hospital admissions are authorised by a doctor following one or more specialist examinations. Patients admitted for surgery are initially given a “pre-admission” appointment during which a series of specific checks (medical examinations, blood tests, MRI scans, ECGs, etc., if applicable) will be carried out. For pre-admission procedures, patients should report to the University Hospital payment desk (on the First Underground Level) at 7:00 am (they will be advised of the date by telephone). They should not have eaten breakfast prior to their arrival. They will also need to produce their European health insurance card and reports showing findings of any diagnostic tests previously carried out. Pre-admission diagnostic tests are not subject to the payment of charges.

Admissions under the Italian National Health Service (SSN) scheme

Depending on the care required, the patient will be admitted either to the University Hospital
(Via Álvaro del Portillo, 200 – 00128 Rome) or the Centre for the Healthcare of the Elderly
(Via Álvaro del Portillo, 5 – 00128 Rome). The patient is informed by telephone of the date. Admission under the SSN scheme provides for a twin en-suite room. Single room admissions are also available, although the cost of this will be charged to the patient.
